MTKD – Self-Defence

The self-defence program we teach is not based on one specific style. We teach multiple techniques for multiple attacks under multiple scenarios.

No two attackers will ever be the same, just as no two attacks are ever the same. Therefor you can’t expect to learn one defence for 100’s of different attacks and expect it to work every time. What works for a teenage girl probably won’t work for a man in his 50’s. The principles never change but the application does.

This is why it is so important to know what happens to the body when you apply certain techniques to it. Essentially knowing the outcome before it happens.

We pride ourselves in only teaching what works for you. Use what you have to its full potential instead of trying to do something that will get you hurt or even killed.

There are no belts or uniforms, No grading or extra fees, it is just simply learning what you can do in aggravated scenarios. As you practice you will notice your skill level increase along with your confidence.

What will you learn?

Attack evasion – Body movement that will redirect your opponents force and exponentially increase your own.

Pressure/Vital points – These are spots on the body that are very seldom known and extremely effective to disorientate and/or incapacitate. You do not need to be strong to utilise these target points.

Joint Locks – Getting into a joint lock is perfect if you want to control someone by limiting their movement and power. Ultimately leading to a bone break or dislocation if they don’t comply.

Body Manipulation – Controlling an opponent’s balance, movement and stability.

Reaction Reflex – conditioning your body to react without thought or delay. This is essential when the balance of your life relies on seconds.

Free Community self-defense classes, are once a month on a Friday night at 6pm to 8pm.
This is not a fitness class, It is purely self-defense. Teaching the body to react correctly and effectively

Who will you learn from?

Barend Snyman started his martial art journey in 1989 with JKA Shotakan Karate as a young child.

Between 2000 and 2007 he engaged in Shinobi Ninjitsu, Muay Thai and Judo.

In 2009 he moved cities and found ITF Taekwon-Do. He achieved numerous medals in different levels of local, provincial and National competition and started his own Taekwon-Do cub in Blouberg Cape Town in 2012.

On a personal level he has attended many seminars and studied the philosophy of other Martial arts such as Krav Mega, Aikido, Systema, Wing Chun and Brazilian Jujitsu.

What he teaches is only practical. One must understand that if you want to be able to fight like someone who has trained a style for 10 years, then you have to go train for 10 years. Simple as that. What we do is personal effective and efficient self-defence.

Success! Message received.

The Importance of self-defense for both young and old

Self-defense holds significant importance for people of all ages, both young and old. It equips individuals with essential skills and knowledge to protect themselves and others in potentially dangerous situations. Here's a brief description of its importance for each age group:

Young individuals: Self-defense is crucial for young people as it promotes personal safety, confidence, and independence. By learning self-defense techniques, young individuals can develop a sense of empowerment and the ability to respond effectively in threatening situations. It teaches them to be aware of their surroundings, identify potential risks, and make informed decisions to ensure their safety. Moreover, self-defense training can enhance discipline, focus, and physical fitness, contributing to their overall well-being.

Older individuals: Self-defense remains equally vital for older individuals, particularly due to their potential vulnerability. As people age, they may become targets for various forms of exploitation, abuse, or violence. Learning self-defense techniques enables older adults to maintain their personal security and protect themselves from potential harm. It helps them develop strategies to deter attackers, escape dangerous situations, and seek help when needed. Self-defense training can also enhance their physical strength, coordination, and balance, contributing to their overall health and reducing the risk of falls or injuries.

Regardless of age, self-defense training promotes self-awareness, assertiveness, and the ability to set personal boundaries. It instills a sense of confidence and reduces fear, allowing individuals to navigate their daily lives with greater peace of mind. Additionally, self-defense training often emphasizes de-escalation techniques and nonviolent conflict resolution strategies, fostering a culture of safety, respect, and empathy within communities.

It's important to note that self-defense should always be accompanied by an understanding of legal boundaries and a focus on personal safety rather than aggression. Seeking professional guidance and training from qualified instructors can ensure that individuals learn effective techniques while developing a responsible and ethical mindset regarding self-defense.
